About me... My interest in painting only started reletively recently, around 2004, when my parents showed me a painting they had done with a local Bob Ross instructor. Following this, I went along to a local workshop organised by the instructor - Paul Bryant, and painted my first work of art, entitled Winter Paradise. Having thoroughly enjoyed this workshop I attempted a couple of paintings at home, always having those immortal Bob Ross words etched on my mind - "you don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents". I kept at it and started to see my patience rewarded with paintings like Western Waters and Winter Cabin coming off the easel, with others soon following. In late 2005 I decided to turn my hand to something different and had a go at a couple of seascapes, initially after a lot of practice I completed Tropical Seas and Mariners Friend. In late 2005, early 2006 I decided to combine my love of aviation with my new found love of art and completed my first aviation painting – a Tornado entitled High Flier. What then followed was Silver Hunter and the more recent Angel of the Skies, where I visited Duxford and photographed the subject of the painting and transformed it onto canvas (many thanks to all at Aircraft Restoration Company, especially Lynda for this chance). I`ve also found that the exhibitions that I have attended have given me a lot of feedback on these paintings, especially from veterans, it`s great to listen to the stories and see them reminisce. Not to miss out on the act, early in 2007 my daughter encouraged me to have a go at wildlife and my first attempt at this was our beloved cat, Phoebe, with a black and white piece entitled Patience. From there I developed my skills and completed Siberian Sovereign, most recently I have completed two paintings that are to be donated to Ada Cole Redwings for sales (a very worthy cause). In early 2007 I also had a go at the first floral painting entitled Poppies, this style of painting is very demanding and not easy. The latest pieces can be seen on this website. I continue to paint, when time permits (I find it`s a great way to unwind after a bad day at work) at every possible chance. I would recommend painting to anyone, it`s great...and the wet-on-wet technique is a great way of seeing results in a shorter space of time than conventional methods. My interest in photography stems back many years (back to my early years) and being taken to airshows like International Air Tattoo at Greenham Common by my parents. If I could get a chance I would take my fathers camera and take shots.. In 2006, I got a Fuji S5600 digital camera...since then I haven`t stopped using it, anywhere I go, it`s taken with me and used. I find that I`m able to get shots and results that I never dreamt of achieving in the past. I have taken landscapes, seascapes, wildlife and aviation (some of the subjects I have photographed I have then painted or used in paintings) Please take a look at the photo galleries for a small selection of thousands that I have taken since 2006. I hope you enjoy your visit to my website and please don`t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions on any aspects contained within the website, or better still leave some comments on the guestbook provided. Many thanks Neil |
